Chapter 4777 The Royal Casino (Part 11)
Immediately afterwards, Arkham Batman approached Superman, but Superman seemed to have run out of luck. This time, instead of finding the safe, he went shopping in a store. Arkham Batman punched him, knocking him down, and then landed another punch, leaving Superman in a near-death state.
Unexpectedly, Superman also has the ability to revive himself. The instant he fell, he stood up, turned around and unleashed a heat ray that knocked back Arkham Batman, before jumping off the ceiling.
This time, he jumped all the way to the bottom and then started circling the board with Arkham Batman in the lobby. Arkham Batman had already discovered that this Superman's strength far exceeded his expectations; at least, the Superman in his universe shouldn't be able to figure it out.
It's not that navigating the planks is particularly difficult, but Superman is someone accustomed to having superhuman senses and super strength, so he'd be very uncomfortable in a scenario that almost completely restricts his abilities. You'd see him frequently making takeoff attempts, only to freeze in place because he can't fly.
It's like a person who originally had two hands, but one of them suddenly disappeared one day. He might occasionally forget about it, and when he wants to pick something up, he'll still move the shoulder on that side. There's nothing he can do about it.
Especially when it comes to things like using cover and taking detours on the ground, Superman has almost no experience with that. In the past, he would just fly over any obstacle he encountered, and no opponent would force him to play hide-and-seek on the ground, so he is probably not good at that.
Furthermore, without a super brain, Superman can no longer unintentionally remember everything he has seen. He would have to work hard to remember and think like an ordinary person in order to memorize the routes and apply them flexibly, which is quite difficult.
But this Superman turned out to be a special breed. Not only did he memorize the route through the hall, but he also navigated the board with remarkable skill, and after running past it, he even turned back and smiled at Batman.
Batman from Arkham chased after him relentlessly, finally managing to land a punch at the last possible distance as he rounded an overturned gambling table. This gave Superman quite a fright.
Even so, he quickly calmed down and continued pulling Arkham Batman to the other side. Arkham Batman had no patience for playing around with him anymore; he used a grappling hook to grab a chandelier from the ceiling, leaping over the obstacle and landing right in front of Superman.
"God, you're cheating," Superman said.
Bang! Arkham Batman didn't waste any words.
Even after defeating Superman, Batman Arkham still didn't take him to the basement because there simply wasn't enough time. There were still two people to capture, and if they opened the same safe together, the progress bar might be reduced to less than a third.
Batman from Arkham returned to the safe, only to find the progress bar hadn't moved, proving the two men weren't at this safe. He walked towards another possible location and, sure enough, found the agent opening the safe.
This is the most difficult person to deal with, Batman Arkham knows that. His ability to launch himself is simply outrageous; he leaps forward like a rocket. But thankfully, the scene is completely dark now, and running at that speed, it's easy for him to crash into something.
The agent glanced back and saw Batman, then took off again, but without crashing into anything. Arkham Batman was certain this ability should allow for auto-navigation, because running that fast without hitting anything without night vision was something no human could do.
Arkham Batman decisively abandoned the agent. Unless he could get close to the enemy twice within the skill's cooldown period, there was absolutely no way to catch him. Arkham Batman didn't believe he had that kind of luck; he'd rather do something more practical.
There aren't many safes left, and two are in very remote areas, so the chances of them opening those two are very low. Batman from Arkham only needs to run back and forth between the two safes in the middle.
Sure enough, not long after, he caught Lucifer at another safe. In Arkham Batman's eyes, Lucifer was probably the easiest target; he really didn't know how to play the game.
However, Arkham Batman was still somewhat wary, because Lucifer actually had a bad temper, and if pushed too far, he might just use his administrator privileges to flip the table, which would be troublesome.
So Arkham Batman stood behind him for a while, thinking about how to avoid scaring him. Lucifer hesitated for a long time before remembering to look back, only to see Batman standing behind him like a wall.
Lucifer darted to the other side of the room in a flash.
"What are you doing!" Lucifer yelled. "Why are you walking so silently?!"
"I'm thinking about how to kill you without letting you blow up the whole game," Arkham Batman truthfully said.
"You actually think about that?" Lucifer's tone was not without sarcasm. "When you said that to me before, didn't you think about whether I would be so provoked that I would blow up the entire universe?"
"...What did I say?" Arkham Batman was genuinely puzzled; he hadn't spoken to Lucifer.
"You still want to argue?!" Lucifer raised his voice, "Since you clearly know me... why did you..."
“I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” Arkham Batman said. “I haven’t said anything to you except for what we’re having now. If you’ve heard anything, it’s most likely your imagination.”
Lucifer opened his mouth, then said, "But that's impossible. How could Dr. Manhattan have read my memories?"
"You mean, he said something that terrified you, but he shouldn't have known that?"
Lucifer nodded and said, "I thought you had investigated me and knew about my affair with Anatoly. Perhaps you could have found out, after all, you're Batman. But who is that Dr. Manhattan?"
Arkham Batman understands. The question remains: this skill uses Arkham Batman's fear to reflect the fear of others, which presupposes that the person who created this skill must know what those fears are.
The others were easy to deal with; reading some superficial memories wasn't difficult, and many things weren't really secrets, so none of them intended to hide anything.
However, Lucifer is completely different. He is not human, not even a living being; he is the administrator of the universe, and one of the fundamental rules of the universe. It is impossible to read his memories at will. Although Batman got a juicy scoop before, it was shared with them by other involved parties, not seen from Lucifer's memories.
This makes it virtually impossible to grasp Lucifer's fear. Without his memories, how can you tell if his fear of something is genuine or feigned?
However, judging from Lucifer's reaction, he was genuinely frightened, even showing signs of stress, indicating that the other party had correctly identified the trigger point. How did he know that?
“Let’s not discuss this anymore.” Arkham Batman decided to skip the topic, as it wasn’t appropriate to discuss it under Doctor Manhattan’s nose. “Are you calm now?”
"Barely," Lucifer said. "But even if I didn't cheat, do you think you could beat me?"
“I can give it a try,” said Arkham Batman. “You said it yourself, I’m Batman.”
The next second, Arkham Batman lunged forward, showing no fear of the Archangel, only the excitement of having long wanted to beat this bastard up. The Batmen already knew what Lucifer had done in Hell.
Lucifer dodged, snapped his fingers, and said, "Let there be light."
Instantly, a bright light shone, filling the entire room with a soft white glow. Arkham Batman was startled by the flash, and Lucifer seized the opportunity to escape. He too jumped from the atrium to the first floor and began circling the planks with Batman.
If you're talking about special breeds of Superman, then yes, there are geniuses who don't rely on superhuman senses or superhuman brains. But what about Lucifer? How is this second-generation god who rarely uses his brain so incredibly powerful?
After chasing Lucifer for a while, Arkham Batman realized that it wasn't that Lucifer was powerful, but rather that he was incredibly lucky. Lucifer actually ran unsteadily, and his choices were often haphazard, like a headless fly, not at all like someone with complete control. Yet, he always managed to choose the right route, bypassing Arkham Batman, and nothing seemed to trip him up.
"Stop right there," Arkham Batman yelled. "Are you sure you didn't cheat?"
“Of course not, otherwise Dr. Manhattan would definitely have told you,” Lucifer said. “After all, his amusement park and the Battle Realm are competitors, so why wouldn’t he expose my weaknesses?”
"Then what is this...?"
"Of course it's because I'm amazing!" Lucifer was smug for just two seconds, but then he seemed to remember something and continued, "Well, luck is a tricky thing. Or you can just think of it as God's favor; the favorite son always gets some special treatment."
"You're very lucky?"
"To be precise, the more critical the situation, the better my luck. This is a safety measure that God left for me when I was a child to prevent me from sneaking out and encountering danger."
Lucifer was gloating over his victory, unaware that Arkham Batman had been slowly closing in on him, closing the distance to his punching range. With a thud, Lucifer collapsed to the ground.
"Damn it! Batman! You attacked me from behind!" Lucifer indeed opened his mouth and cursed, his shouts echoing throughout the entire first floor. But Arkham Batman didn't care; he simply hoisted Lucifer onto his shoulder.
"Put me down! Put me down! Damn it, once I get out of here, I'm going to teach you a lesson!"
"Batman! You can't do this to me! I can't go on that damn chair, it'll hurt so much to get shocked!!!"
"Batman, let's make a deal! Whatever you want to do after we get out, I'll agree to it and make sure you're satisfied. How about it?"
“I’m not Constantine.” Arkham Batman threw Lucifer to the ground. “I wasn’t planning on putting you in that chair either, or God would be coming after me.”
“You know that much,” Lucifer continued, “but even if you weren’t Constantine, the two of us could still have some fun. Angels don’t have genders, do you like hot blondes? Or maybe a dark-haired Spaniard?”
Arkham Batman turned and walked away.
"Wait a minute, don't leave me here all alone!" Lucifer shouted as he crawled around. "You might as well put me on a chair; at least it's brighter there..."
“Shut up,” Arkham Batman said, turning around. “If you don’t want this game replay to be sent to Dr. Shostakov, you’d better behave.”
Lucifer shut up.
